Online shopping today is 41 years old and do you know who wanted to build this innovation?
Michael Aldrich (22 August 1941 – 19 May 2014), who was an English inventor, innovator and entrepreneur brought life to the idea of online shopping in 1979 and enabled online transactions between consumers and businesses and between businesses with other businesses. This was later called E-commerce.
In 1984, electronic orders were made on the television screen using the options via a TV remote that was turned into a computer terminal. Then, the Videotex technology generated a shopping list onto the TV screen and the order was phoned to the local Tesco. The parcel was received at the doorsteps. This concept was not popular until the internet was opened to the public in 1991.
